Mikael Blomkvist, crusading journalist and publisher of the magazine  Millennium,  has decided to run a story that will expose an extensive sex trafficking operation between Eastern Europe and Sweden, implicating well-known and highly placed members of Swedish society, business, and government.

But he has no idea just how explosive the story will be until, on the eve of publication, the two investigating reporters are murdered. And even more shocking for Blomkvist: the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to Lisbeth Salander—the troubled, wise-beyond-her-years genius hacker who came to his aid in  The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,  and who now becomes the focus and fierce heart of  The Girl Who Played with Fire.

As Blomkvist, alone in his belief in Salander’s innocence, plunges into an investigation of the slayings, Salander herself is drawn into a murderous hunt in which she is the prey, and which compels her to revisit her dark past in an effort to settle with it once and for all.

Chowch      The second entry to the "Millennium" trilogy is a shadow of the first book. The first book was more of a detective novel focusing on intrigues and clues, and it was the non-stop element of surprises that made it such a good read. However, the second book focuses mainly on telling Salander's history and the element of surprises rooted from twist and turns of the plot that at times did not make much sense nor relevance. It is not to say that the book was poor, as Larsson's ability to write was evident throughout, its just that what made the writing special from the first book, such as the description of Salander was continued in the second book that I no longer felt necessary nor exciting. Right from the beginning of the puzzle, us readers know that our beloved Salander did not commit the crimes, so the book really relies on the sense of dramatic irony to force the story forward, however, it feels as if to make the story interesting, Larsson had to conjure up really ambiguous and non-probable plots that really discredited the story (Such as the sudden emergence of the boxer). Again, there is a sub-plot to the second book that did not tie in with the second half, I suspect like the first book, it will be explained in the third entry, and I cannot wait to find out what will happen. All-in-all, The Girl Who Played with Fire is a solid book, but I expected much more as a sequel to the amazing first book that I simply could not put down. This was not what I had expected.  详情 发表于 2013-8-5 02:36

爱在加    Since Stieg Larsson was a guy, he never experienced what a girl would experience, travelling in the Caribbean. A girl gets attention. A girl could never do 'detective' type of work like Salander has done at the beginning of the book, without being accosted to or gossiped about. It is more likely that Richard Forbes would pay more attention to her than she could to him, being the two or few foreigners in a Caribbean bar. It is just impossible, for a female foreigner, to be left alone in the Caribbean islands. You will know what it is like when you get yourself here. But it is a great book. The above thought just struck me as I was having breakfast. I was sheltering for the rain to stop in a corner bar, and the Caribbean men, they just had to perform to get your attention, until you noticed and nodded to them.  详情 发表于 2013-9-19 14:31
雾灵山    The second book of the series is definitely slower than the first book. The first half of the book has too much playback for readers who didn't read the first book. This is part of the reason I like to read books with continuation. The new book won't spend too much time to explain the old stuff and get the story going. Two things I dont really get is: what's with the algebra? I understand Salander is smart. Why keep dragging out the equations? Also what's with the husband trying to kill his wife at the beginning? The mini story does not really help the main story flow at all. If I were turning this book into a movie, I would cut it. After reading half of this book, the story starts to pick up with people dying, things happening. Overall, this is a good book. I would recommend it.  详情 发表于 2013-9-22 22:46
